MAN Family Wines “Bosstok” Pinotage, 2011, Coastal Region, South Africa

14 Jan

DSC03194Unique to South Africa, Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault, which was once known locally as “Hermitage.” (Hence “Pinotage”—say: PEE-no-tazh). This wine shows aromas of mocha and roasted coffee beans followed by juicy flavors of red raspberries, nutmeg and vanilla spice on the palate. Try it with smoked pork shoulder and rich, sticky barbecue sauce. $8

MAN Family Wines Chenin Blanc, 2012, South Africa

5 Nov

DSC03013The most widely-planted wine grape in South Africa, Chenin Blanc was known locally as “Steen” until DNA testing confirmed its Loire Valley parentage. MAN’s shows vibrant aromas of quince and baked apple. On the palate, stone fruit and bold citrus flavors are backed by refreshing acidity and minerality on the finish. Try this great value wine with spicy Asian or Latin flavors. $8
