Deux Montille Auxey-Duresses Blanc, 2007, Burgundy, France

16 Jan

DSC03222Love some good white Burgundy with some bottle age on it? Do your tastes run to Meursault rather than Chablis? Auxey-Duresses lies just west-northwest of the more famous Meursault AOC, and this wine leans that full, beautiful, hazelnutty direction. Made by a brother and sister, this wine is sourced from two vineyard parcels abutting Meursault’s Les Luchets vineyard. Supple, aromatically rich Chardonnay that’s beginning to show its true strengths. $29

Bruno Clair Marsannay Blanc, 2010, Burgundy, France

16 Jan

DSC03221As the grandson of the founder of Burgundy’s famed Domaine Clair-Dau, Bruno Clair has winemaking in his blood. His Marsannay white is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Blanc grown in very fine clay soil. The tropical fruit aromas of Chardonnay translate to the palate, while the Pinot brings roundness and meatiness before the long, bold finish. Enjoy with classic, minimalist roast chicken. $42

Heggies Vineyard Chardonnay, 2011, Eden Valley, South Australia

103Beautiful Australian Chardonnay! Fermented in French oak with indigenous yeasts before partial malolactic fermentation. The wine has a subtle toasty character which mingles well with the ripe green apple and pear notes on the nose and palate, before a creamy, rounded finish. Should be in perfect harmony with spicy Szechuan cuisine. $25

Domaine du Chardonnay, 2011, Chablis, France

15 Oct

Lucinda & Millie Organic Chardonnay, 2010, Mendocino County, California

17 Aug

DSCN1959-001Lucinda, a sheep, and Millie, a chicken, are the mascots of this organic vineyard and farm. Lucinda and her flock graze between the vines to control cover crops; Millie’s friends act as the pest control squad, gathering unwanted insects from the vineyard. The Chardonnay is similarly clean and green, with only 10% of the wine seeing oak. All the bright acidity and green apple notes shine through with perfect clarity, making this a very food-friendly Chardonnay. Enjoy it with spice-rubbed beer can chicken. $14
