Barbera is the most-planted grape in Italy’s famed Piedmont region, where it has for years played second fiddle to Nebbiolo, the grape of Barolo and Barbaresco. In the 1980’s and 1990’s, though, a renaissance of high-quality vineyard work and barrel aging introduced a new and age-worthy style of Barbera into the world, with benchmark producers like Giacomo Bologna of Braida commanding top-dollar for his stellar Bricco dell’Uccellone Barbera d’Asti. You’ll taste that incredible bottling as well as several others (including some totally rockin’ 10-year-aged Barbera Grappa from Berta) at a fantastic wine dinner coming up with pairings by chef Andrea Frizzi of Il Posto. $75/per (plus tax & gratuity).
