Perlita Malbec-Syrah Blend, 2011, Mendoza, Argentina

17 Aug

DSCN1958-001Earthy, spicy Argentine Malbec melds with the fruity smoothness of Syrah to produce a very approachable, full-bodied wine. The palate shows ripe fruit and silky-soft tannins lent weight by 10 months in French oak. For fans of Malbec, this is a really fun spin on the varietal from the Bonnie family, who have run some high-dollar real estate in Bordeaux (Graves and Pessac-Leognan) and recently began this project, DiamAndes, in Argentina. An easy-drinking Malbec blend like Perlita is fine by itself, but put it next to some seared flank steak dusted with salt, pepper, minced garlic, and chipotle flakes and you’ll see how great it can be. $15

We love Malbecs and this seems like one we should try.
