Heritance Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir, 2011, Carneros, California

13 Aug

DSCN1789-001The Portet family draw upon a long family history in the wine industry, with nine generations having dedicated themselves to the grape on four different continents. Their Stanly Ranch Pinot Noir is sourced from Carneros, the finest area in Napa to grow Pinot Noir for its delicate balance of hot, sunny days and cool, foggy evenings. But how about the wine? It’s brilliant deep ruby in the glass, with intense fruity aromas of red fruit and cherry with a hint of spice and fine tannin. Powerful in the mouth, rich and generous with the fruit and earth, with a hint of mint and undergrowth on the long finish. Should be extraordinary with roast leg of lamb, or a simple tray of Camembert and cured meats. $48
